Title: Mitchell's Gypsy Build
Post by: Mitchell on July 14, 2013, 11:35:23 PM
Greetings, Builders! It's been a long while since I've posted. I've been extremely sidetracked from Bot Building for quite some time but I've just gotten back into the swing of it and I thought I would share some photos of my Gypsy build!

Ordering paint tomorrow (absolutely no one locally carries it :( )!! Hoping to have her finished up by the middle of the week!

Got a little more work done today. Built the buck for vacuuforming the "control knob":

And re-wired the Eveready Lantern with a jumbo super bright LED:

Also got the holes epoxied and sanded. Paint is on it's way from Testors so it's looking good to be finished by the end of the week! :)

Thanks!! It's be a fun albeit speedy build. Once I finally got my car seat in the mail, the bot building juices really got flowing and I'm having a blast.

A side note - this is the first time I've EVER gotten to see the Century Love Seat in person and I can absolutely see why there's never been replicas made. I've recently gotten access to an industrial vacuuformer and as I waited for the seat to arrive I was excited at the prospect of making replicas using it.

Once I got it in the mail and got it separated, I could see there was no way you could vacuuform it and get all of the necessary details. Resin/Fiberglass castings is really the only way I could see it working but the costs involved in that would be so expensive, not to mention there'd be a ton of work involved in just producing one pull let alone several.  :(

I love the base, it's very fitting!

Thank you!! I wanted something that was a little more "Display Friendly" than the puppeteer rig or some other modified stand. She's also on casters so she can be wheeled around for easy transportation  :)

I'm probably going to redo the details on it. That's a bunch of random Dollar Tree toys I picked up but I'm no entirely happy with how it looks. I also want to skirt it with something to hide the casters.

But hey, at least I actually finished it. LOL

Take lots of photos of the build... I've got no space to build my Gypsy, so I have to live vicariously through others ;)
