Parts Sourcing / Love Seat on EBay
« on: July 23, 2017, 05:37:56 AM »
I'm not entirely sure this is the right car seat for Gypsy, but I think it may be:

Not cheap, but the first hit I've seen in years of monitoring EBay for this.

Any opinions on if this is the right one? If so, feel free to snatch it up - I don't really have room for the girl in my house, and something this rare needs to go to someone who can display her proudly!

Bot Building - General Discussion / Re: Crow arms

I ended up using 3/8" square plastruct on my second Crow, as described at together with Sledge Riprock's joints.

The metal arm pieces I used before were long, heavy, and unwieldy. But it's probably more faithful to early-season Crows.

Agreed! I watched it yesterday and loved it. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I was also happy to see that the 'bots are still pretty faithful to the originals. I won't need to build new ones, at least not immediately!

We should also immortalize the crisp-ish pictures Joel provided of the previous Cambots for future bot builders here, and what he remembers of their construction:

"The color of the this Cambot is actually from the items used: a few plastic bowling pins (yellow), a dollís car seat carrier (pink), a plastic sled (orange), and some spray paint to add shadow and texture (black). Cambotís camera is just one of the actual cameras from KTMA, altered with the tip of traffic cone."

"If you look closely, you can tell that I fabricated this one from the KTMA Gypsy and a plastic dome. (I think it was probably the top to a home popcorn machine.) There are a few other parts in there, but I can't I.D. them anymore. Sorry."

"This version was fabricated from Kenner's Star Wars AT-AT Walker, a flashing light and a dryer hose, and the checkerboard patterns were from decals I got from the Hub Hobby."

Of course he didn't have any insight into the seasons 5-10 version of Cambot, but sounds like he's not a fan of how it seems to just fly without any means of support. It's just a show...

Thank *you* for keeping it up! With the reboot coming out, I suspect traffic will pick up a bit here.

Argh, now I'm going to have to build another one with proper wrists!

I don't have a caliper to measure, but I believe they're SLIGHTLY smaller than 38mm.

I had to check....

I don't have a caliper either, but eyeballing it against a ruler, if it's not 38mm it's really, really close.

A case for regular 38mm ping pong balls however is that they're white, and gnip-gnop balls are colored. Maybe that makes them a little easier to paint without the eyes looking too dark. Plus there's no way to get gnip-gnop balls out without destroying the game's case in the process, which makes you feel a little guilty.

May I ask what you ended up using for the eye mechanism wheel...?

It ended up being totally random. I was replacing the spring mechanism in one of the sliding windows of my house  (, which had a little pulley system inside of it. The wheel from that worked nicely, although getting it out required drilling.

That was after I bought every little sliding door wheel I could find at Home Depot, only to find all of them were still way too big.

I think I read that the original was ripped out of an old copier or something.  You can buy pre-assembled control rods from as well, which have an even better wheel included with them. Would love to know where he gets them.

Aren't Gnip Gnop balls 38mm? In that case, nobody will ever know either way!

FWIW, a Schwarz soap dish will only do you any good if you intend to do your own vacuum-form pull from it after grinding off the flower. BBI only used the original dish on KTMA - it has a huge flower on it, and is way too thick, for a "modern" Crow. So maybe you can spare yourself that particular expense...

If you really want one, I'd suggest putting an alert on Ebay for "Schwarz Bros" (without "soap dish"), since not everyone knows it's a soap dish. I found mine as part of an entire set of matching bathroom items that I bought, and then realized I couldn't actually use it for anything. If you check Ebay right now, you can get every part of that set - except the soap dish! But, it does come up from time to time.

I gave up on finding Empire pins, but I think mst3kbots still has a small supply available for sale (along with any replica parts you could want.)

Looks like you just missed a fanny pincher at auction:  As you can see, they don't go cheaply and they don't come up often.

Don't forget the 38mm ping pong balls - I used real "Gnip Gnop" balls on mine! And, if you're going for the eye mechanism that has a wheel at the top - finding an appropriate wheel can be surprisingly hard.

Your Tom looks good 1984gojifan!

Glad the soap dish arrived in one piece Luke - happy it found a good home.

Anyone who can score a Money Lover Barrel is OK in my book!

I've got this soap dish sitting in a box - as I don't have a vacu-form machine nor plans to build a KTMA Crow, it's not doing anyone any good here.

PM me if it looks like something you could use.

How on earth do you know all of that, Ron? Something tells me there is more to our esteemed host here than meets the eye.

I've got a soap dish that I got on EBay without much trouble, before I knew it wasn't useful for a "modern" Crow. If you set up an email alert for "Schwarz Bros soap dish" they come up once in awhile.

I see you also posted asking about Cooper XL7's - they're also pretty common on Ebay. In fact there's one up for sale right now.
