Several years ago I bought two Century Infant Loveseats. I wound up selling one to a friend (Here's his build) and left the other one on a shelf to collect dust along with all the random Tom and Crow parts I had.


A couple weeks ago I finally decided to get off my duff and start building some bots. Since Gypsy is the furthest along, I'll post her build thread first.


First, I hacked up the seat.


I zip-tied the halves together. Mostly because the zip-ties were closer to me than my roll of tape. Also, she looks like a catfish.


I then drilled the holes for the jaw hinge. Did I mention I hate paddle bits?


After that I drilled three holes through the seat and into the Eveready lantern. I then used some lock-nut fasteners to keep them together.



It took me longer than it should have to realize that a closet flange is a toilet attachment. Nevertheless, I found one and bolted it on.



So here she is in her current state:




I'm getting a vac-formed control knob from Mitchell soon, and a spring. After that I'll begin working on the skeleton/control rig.

It is so rare to see a true Century Loveseat.  Incredible work.

Thanks, guys. I got a little bit of work done tonight - nothing too fancy.

I broke out the trusty Bondo to fill in some of the rivet holes:




Then sanded them down:


And here's the first coat of primer:



I'm planning to get some more work done throughout the week.

Wow, amazing work!  I really appreciate the pictures!  They really make me want to get off MY duff and get cracking on my Gypsy.  I've had cold feet since acquiring the seat four years ago; I would never forgive myself if I somehow screwed up that seat.  I just need to bite the bullet and do it, and I know everything will be fine.

Simply put: it takes guts to tackle Gypsy.  You, sir, appear to have guts in spades!  Good on ya.  She looks wonderful.

You're not kidding about that, Dan! The hardest part of building Gypsy is finding a Love Seat. The second hardest part is working up the courage to cut it up!

Last week I laid down a purple base coat. I used Rustoleum Gloss Grape for this since I already had it on hand.









Last night I sprayed the Purple Metal Flake. It's a bit darker than I was expecting, but I think it turned out nice.


I painted the Eveready cowl white for the Season 1 look. If I decide I don't like it later, I'll just take it off.

Unbelievably cool!  She's looking awesome!  It's wonderful seeing another Gypsy come into the world.
