Bot Stands
« on: September 11, 2016, 07:23:12 PM »
Back in the ole Yahoo groups days, Joranthulus had made some bot stands. Does anyone remember these or know where I can find the design?

I seem to remember those.  These days, I've just got my Servo sitting on a shelf, and I cut a pole lamp support base to size and mounted Crow on top of it.  It's a nice weighted base, and you can cut the pole to the height you want to display Crow at.

If they're the stands I'm thinking of, they were made from round concrete forms from Home Depot or Lowes. You could cut some wooden circles out and screw them into the top and bottom of the cardboard tubes. Then, you just decorated them with random greeblies (just like the SOL walls) and then paint them up.

I remember trying my hand at them probably 15 or so years ago. Pretty cool idea, really.

I had an idea for a stand/display.
Build a cabinet in the style of the desk in the show. Maybe not show accurate in size and all but in that style.
I would mount the stands on the the back to make it look like they were standing behind the table. May even have a hatch on top the table to make it look like Tom was coming up through it like in MST3k The Movie.
The bottom part would be a cabinet for the dvds or not parts.

^That'd be pretty sick, man!  Great idea!  A build like that wouldn't be too complicated, either.  If you or anyone around here decides to try that, all I ask is that you share pics!  ;D

My crow has a stand with Decals spelling out his name.

As some of might know, Mitchell made a base for his Gypsy. I was inspired by that so I made a base for my Crow out of an old Fan Stand. When I met Trace last year. He was incredibly impressed by my work, and gave my build an A+.

There's a video on Youtube of him looking at mine and near the end he talks about the base.

That's super awesome!  I might try something similar with my Gypsy...

If I ever finish her.  ;)

Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm kinda proud of my Crow stand. Had the G laser cut off a website for like $15, and some hexagons I bought off ebay for like $10 (you could make this stuff, my saw capabilities are limited) Some of that yarn needlepoint grid stuff, various greeblies and you have an approximation of the Joel Era Bridge door, what I was going for.
