"Breakaway Bots"
« on: September 27, 2017, 03:03:27 PM »
Today, there was a video update that went out showing some behind the scene pictures and video from the 200th episode of the show:

http://www.mst3k.com/the_amazing_colossal_puppetry_guide_time_travelers_mst3k?utm_campaign=092217&utm_medium=email&utm_source=mst3k

Something interesting they included was a video of the testing of the "Breakaway Bots" that Crow and Servo go nuts on as part of the new robot assymbly line sketch in 'Time Travelers.'  I meant to comment on this previously, but the toy that appears to be used as the base of the body for the breakaway bots is the Imaginext Power Rangers Morphin' Megazord.

Here's a couple pictures of the toy, and screenshots of the BTS footage:

Here's a banana for scale:

Shots from the BTS video:

Heads-a-poppin!

Episode screenshots (about 47:30 in):

"Fixy"

"Slappy"

"Quosey" (sp)

I've been meaning to start a topic on this for a while.  Glad you beat me to it!  Awesome images, Ron!

Every time I've passed one of these Megazords in a store since April, I've instantly thought of these guys!  If they weren't so expensive, I'd nab one or three and build these guys!  They'd be fun, easy props to build, provided I skipped the complicated looking "breakaway" aspect.  ;)

Also, months of digesting more knowledge on the topic of sandcastle molds than ANY human should ever attempt to do (all for the love of Waverly) has given me a trained eye, and, well... does Slappy have half a sandcastle for a face?  Of course Slappy does!

He's Slappy!

Had a breakthrough on identifying the "gears" today.

Here's a decent shot of one:

Appears to be a gear-like building toy called "Coglets":

You can pick them up on Amazon...

NICE, RON!!!!

Ah, the thrill of the hunt.

I'm currently puzzling over the bots' new heads.  They look like Tupperware bowls, with the lids acting as the mouths.  That's obviously our old friend, the Gypsy drainage tubing, as the necks, but now the hunt for the actual bowls begins.

Also, what the heck is that on Quosey's face?  I MUST KNOW THE TRUTH!!!!

Here's a flipped and cropped image that might help.

The bowl appears to have a handle...

And a pour spout...

The base appears to be another part added on (based on the metal fastener...

Check out that texturing on the "lid"...

There's still fun to be had!

For example... the head bowl sorta looks like the ones OXO makes:
